I might impose upon you some day to coach me on "rotating" the car in cornering. The front engine and quattro drive system makes the front end heavy and prone to understeer.

Great tips, Andy. I too often find myself fixed on the car ahead and not the road ahead of them. Something I'm aware of and working on.

What about shifting habits? Even in my automatic, I prefer taking over the downshifts for the pleasure of the revs and control. Plus I'm hoping I'm saving on the brakes in the process. Then the added engagement of exaggerating the upshifts on a slow build up or dropping the hammer (figuratively) coming out of a turn. In either direction, I find more predictability in the power than relying on the transmission anticipating my next input.

I, too, prefer to shift the PDK when driving spirited. Key is to downshift before the turn, then get to gas as soon as the car has rotated. Rotation not as easy to feel on the street than track. So, at least at apex. I’m working on getting back to throttle sooner although not encounter exit oversteer. A dance for sure. I will use either a slight lift or downshift instead of braking. On the street you typically aren’t going fast to have to slam on the brakes and those techniques can work well with practice.
