What about puddles/standing water? They're more of a concern than grass clippings.

Good point. It depends. Depends on speed and tires. Generally, one would say slow down. But, I want to know how big a puddle (how deep [guess], how long), and what tires I have. Usually, a breathe from throttle is what I do. Rarely would I brake.

You certainly need to brake for some of them if you can't go around them, but going around them where possible is the best way to do it. It's what racing drivers do on a wet track. No matter the tires, you'll always have more traction where a layer of water isn't trying to lift the tire off the pavement.
